Introductory Class Tiny Tots
Highland Dance
This class is designed for Tiny Tots Ages 3-5 that introduces the basics of Step Dancing and Creative Movement using Props, Fun Rhythm and Song, and learning Basic Shuffles, Heels, Toes, Bell Hops. Dance Attire Needed for this class is Patent Leather Shoes and a Bodysuit ( Black Preferably). The little ones have so much fun with this class!
Highland Dance is a Scottish Form of Dance that uses Ghillies for Shoes and involves learning Fling, Sword, Hornpipe, Lilt and other dances .  This is a very traditional form of dance that dates back to many years.  It's an excellent form of exercise and this class is offered to Wee Ones to more Advanced Dancers.
Competitive Dance Company
Hip Hop
This class specifically is our Competitive/Performing Dance Company group that leans towards the more serious side of dance, attending On/and Off Island Competitions throughout the Maritimes and dancers from this group can also be chosen for Paid Gigs and Performances throughout the summer months.  This group is experienced dancers that has been dancing for a few years and represents Somerset Dance Studio in a professional manner.  They learn many choroegraphies along with their regular technique and Reel, Jig, Strathspey throughout the Regular Classes as a full time student. This class requires commitment from all the dancers to attend extra classes but they have a Blast!
This class is fun, energetic and full of movement and sass! From the dances you see on music videos to the pop songs on the radio this class is for Beginner to Adults.
Fun for all ages!

Make Every Step Count
Marlys Hamilton-MacLaren - Director/Owner of Somerset Dance first opened its studio back in 2002 starting out with a small group of 10 students in the original class.  Word got around and before long students were up to 80 year round students.  Marlys began dance at the age of 3 under the Direction of Judy Johnstone of Melody Isle Dance School covering every form from Jazz, Highland, Tap, Step, and Fun.  Marlys over the years has performed with the Barra MacNeills, Ashley MacIsaac, Richard Wood, MacKeel , the Rankin Family and performed on the East Coast Music Awards and Many stages across the Maritimes also winning numerous awards.  In 2007 Marlys embarked on her BATD Membership so her studio would be under the British Association of Teachers of Dance technique and steps.   Marlys loves to teach the culture of dance and enjoys the little ones and watching them grow into beautiful young dancers!
